Election night pza reina sofia 25/05/14

The secretary general of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, will return to the front line of politics next Saturday, March 23, with an outdoor event in the square of the Reina Sofia Museum that they hope will be “multitudinous”, after having enjoyed three months of paternity leave.

The place chosen for the return of Iglesias is no coincidence, since in that square of the Reina Sofia Museum Podemos has celebrated some of the milestones of its trajectory, such as the five MEPs they won in their first elections, the European elections of May 2014, with just five months of existence.

“He returns on Saturday, March 23 in a multitudinous act, in an emotional act in the Plaza del Reina Sofia, with the symbolic weight that this has for us,” reaffirmed the deputy spokeswoman of Podemos.

The ‘purple’ leader also participated by video call in the meeting of the State Citizen Council – the highest governing body of Podemos – which was held on January 30 to address the aforementioned crisis.

The secretary general of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, will return to the front line of politics next Saturday, March 23, with an outdoor event in the square of the Reina Sofia Museum, after having enjoyed three months of paternity leave. This has been announced by the deputy spokeswoman of Podemos in Congress, Ione Belarra, in statements to La Sexta, collected by Europa Press, after defending the decision of the ‘purple’ leader to continue with his leave despite the electoral advance announced more than fifteen days ago.

I also want to tell you that I do not feel identified with the poster with which we have announced it. Recognizing mistakes is always the first step to do things right. I look forward to seeing you on the 23rd.

“I do not feel identified with the poster with which we have announced it,” said Iglesias, who assures that “recognizing mistakes is always the first step to do things right.” Earlier, the secretary general of the party said that he is “very eager” to meet with the militants and that he returns “full of energy and eager to share my reflections in this time of paternity leave”.

Euphoria of podemos in the reina sofia square

The purple leaders compare those days with the current ones in order to repeat the feat. They remember that, then, the polls also gave them for dead. To appeal to that illusion, they have chosen the surroundings of the Reina Sofia Museum for the return of Iglesias. It will be a “very careful” act in which the leader will be able to meet again with his bases. Despite the secrecy surrounding the event, it is clear that it seeks to be a catalyst for the disenchanted voter.

It was inevitable that so much recognition to Iglesias as the call to lead another ‘comeback’ was interpreted as an attempt to curb the suspicions surrounding the purple leadership.  Montero, on TVE, let slip that, “soon”, the general secretary will be a woman. Speculations about who will be the successor (Montero herself?) and when will the successor arrive have multiplied.
